She managed to escape with her padawan. But the Empire tracked her down and captured them both. The Empire....they tortured her padawan right in front of her. Twisted her mind. Made her an Inquisitor. I can't imagine how that must of felt to see that happen.

[ his hands twist into themselves at that. the monsters. the image of maul and ezra together flashes in him and he has to remember to breathe. ]

I'm sorry for her loss. If I had to take a guess... mentoring you was her way of trying to make up for what happened.

No...it was what we were doing that was her attempting to make up for it. Kanan....we found a holocron. One that showed the location of every Force sensitive baby in the galaxy.

[blindrun]

[ kanan doesn't respond right away, tight air sucked in and held as those words dawn over him. force sensitive children. he wonders for a moment if ezra was listed on it. ]

[ incredible? impossible? he doesn't even know what to say. ]

...impossible? It was made by Jedi Master Eno Cordova. He was doing research of an ancient civilization and that ancient technology made him see a vision that caused him create the holocron.

[blindrun]

[ he doesn't comprehend a lot of that. not because it doesn't make sense, but because the thought of a holocron storing all that information is blowing his mind. ]

I don't believe it. [ he mutters stupidly and low, a hand going through his beard as he does. ] Have you located any of the children on it yet? Have you confirmed the information?

Yooooou're not going to be happy with how I would answer that question.

Let's just say that no one can find out the location of Force sensitive children anymore.

[blindrun]

Cal. [ said in that same voice he uses to lecture ezra, you know the one. ] What happened to it?

[uglyponcho]

I destroyed it. And before you say anything, I had plenty of reason to. Reasons, even.

[blindrun]

[ he clacks his teeth, frustrated at having a brief hope dangled over and then snatched away seconds away. but... ]

If you had a reason to then I believe you. What was it though?

I had a vision. It was a whole story, not piecemeal images that could be interpreted in various ways. In that vision, I gathered the children and started an academy. I taught them the ways of the Force. And then the Empire found us, and captured all the children for torture and killing. I surrendered to save their lives and I was turned. I became another dark side user to serve the Emperor.

Still, there is always a chance that vision wouldn't come true but the Empire managed to take the holocron from me. I got it back but...it was kind of sobering to know that the one you guys call Vader was inches from the holocron and knew of its existence entirely. Him or the Emperor would turn everything upside down to find it, I bet. So I did what I had to do.

[ he listens, absorbs, and then lets out a breath he was holding in. ]

I can't say I would have done the same, but I wasn't there. [ he's a rebel at heart and he would hold onto that holocron for life. he's starting to see cal is a lot more pragmatic than he first realized. but it does remind him now- ] Thing is, I think they must have found another way to access that information Cal. A year ago I fought against two Inquisitors - the Seventh Sister and Fifth Brother - to protect a force sensitive child and their mother.

They definitely didn't get it from the holocron. Unless they scanned it in the short time the Inquisitors had it. Or something. If they had all the information...don't you think they might have gotten their hands on your padawan before you did?

No, it wouldn't surprised me if they got a bit of information but it vanished for a while because I ruined the facility they took the holocron to. Inquisitors stumble on it later and somehow act on it, right?

Can't argue your point. My padawan's parents were detained for rebel actions and executed. They didn't seem to care much for him then to do anything but leave him orphaned.

But that's why I can't agree with your actions. You could have used the holocron to protect those children. Destroying it means you don't even know where they are now.

[uglyponcho]

You're not wrong. But that excludes the fact that, outside of extraordinary situations, they're living whatever normal life they can have without having to worry about Inquisitors or Darth Vader breathing down their neck.

But it's pointless to argue. There's no right answer, just varying shades of grey. Something us surviving Jedi have had to get used to dealing with.

No one lives a normal life under the Empire, Cal.

[ he just hopes none of those kids were alone in the world the way ezra was. it makes him sure all the more that the force brought them together for a reason. ]

Well, doesn't matter here. If we're the only two Jedi on Temple territory, then we need to work together. That means training together too.

Alright. I'll see what I can do when it comes to trying to learn some more mental things from you. In return, I'll give you some formal training on how to use dual-bladed lightsabers and double lightsabers. Deal?

Though, er, hope you don't mind if I use something other than a lightsaber. Can't really get any kyber crystals here.

You don't have yours? Don't let your master ever find out about that.

But don't worry. You can borrow mine while training, its probably easier like that. And if we're in a serious pinch that involves fighting, I can detach mine into two and loan you one. Two Jedi in the fight is always better than one with two blades.

I have my saber, but not an extra one to dual wield.

That's fine. Again, you can borrow mine while training. I use it in all three fashions. Outside of training, well, I'm sure there's some analogue weapon out there that will will work whenever you're feeling competent enough to use it.

Competent enough huh.

I can dual wield just fine you know. Two lightsabers doesn't make you a stronger Jedi. Seems like compensating to me.

[ somewhere, out there, ahsoka hunts kanan down to smack his head in. ]

Being able to use just one lightsaber doesn't make you a stronger Jedi. I bet if you asked Master Yoda, he'd say having to use one means you failed as a Jedi.

So, you know... [Cal laughs.] ...if you're trying to playfully insult me, you'll need to try a little harder.
